How to reach Ljubljana and Portoroz

By car
You can reach Ljubljana and Portoroz via major highways from Italy, Austria, Hungary (via Koper), and Croatia (via Rijeka or Pula). You may want to consult the online route planner application of map24.com.

By train
Slovenia can be reached by train as there are regular connections with Italy, Austria, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, and Croatia. There are no direct lines to Koper, so you have to get to Ljubljana or Triest (Italy), from where you can reach Koper by local train or bus. Portoroz cannot be reached directly by train (as the coastal railway line terminates in Koper), but the 15km route between Koper and Portoroz is well serviced by bus and taxi. It is also possible to reach Slovenia and Portoroz from neighbouring countries by bus. Internal bus transport is well organized and relatively inexpensive. There is several buses running daily between Ljubljana and Portoroz, the journey takes just under 3 hours. You may want to consult the Ljubljana bus station website for details.
